This bike and boat tour will take you to the most beautiful places in Istria. Affectionately called the "Heart of Europe" by the locals (due to the heart shepe of the peninsula, the area offers you the opportunity to discover beautiful coastal villages, remote islands and lively port towns. A highlight of your trip will certainly be a visit to the Brijuni Islands National Park, whose natural beauty you will explore by bike and boat. Archaeological traces there point to inhabitants of prehistoric times.
The starting and ending point of your trip is the picturesque coastal town of Porec and you will always be accompanied by the beautiful motor sailer Morena. Come aboard and explore the beauty of Istria!
Route
Tour profile: level 2
The route mostly follows paved roads which are quiet if you avoid the holidays. The route does involve several relatively steep inclines. You should have a sound level of fitness. If you wish you can spend half or whole days on the ship and go swimming instead of cycling.
Day 1: Poreč – Novigrad – Umag, approx. 25 km
Individual arrival to Porec and embarkation between 11:00 and 12:00. Afterwards you will go to Novigrad, where you will start your first bike tour to Umag.–
Day 2: Excursion Portorož, Umag – Novigrad, approx. 60 km
After breakfast you will travel along the coast to Slovenia. After a lunch stop in Portorz, take the opportunity for a detour to nearby Piran. Through the hinterland it will take you back to Umag, where the ship is waiting for you for the crossing to Novigrad.
Day 3: Novigrad – Poreč – Vrsar, approx. 35 km
Today starts with a leisurely ride back to Porec. After a swim stop and lunch we cycle along the sea to Fortuna and continue towards Vrsar. The town is known as the refuge of the heartbreaker Casanova.
Day 4: Vrsar – Limfjord nature reserve – Rovinj, approx. 45 km
Today the journey takes you to Istria’s hinterland. Through the Kontija forest and the ruined town of Dvigrad you will cycle to the Limska Draga valley. Then you will reach the Limfjord Nature Reserve, whose fjord-like bay extends 10 km into the Istrian mainland. After the bike ride you will go by boat to Rovinj, which invites you to stroll with its picturesque old town.
Dag 5: Rovinj – Pula, approx. 40 km
Today you cycle through the Palud bird reserve to Pula, where the MS Morena is already waiting for you and whisks you away to a secluded bay for a swim. On a guided tour of the city back in Pula, you will explore its famous amphitheatre and other sights in the afternoon.
Day 6: Excursion to Cape Kamenjak Nature Park, Pula – Brijuni Islands, approx. 50 km
The day begins with a bike ride to the southernmost point of Istria - Cape Kamenjak with its impressive variety of flora and fauna. Back in Pula, the boat will take you to the Brijuni Islands, where you will take a one-hour round trip on the miniature train to marvel at the unique flora and fauna. Round off the day with a visit to the "Interactive Boathouse" museum and the "Tito on Brijuni" exhibition.–
Day 7: Brijuni Islands bike tour, Brijuni Islands – Poreč, approx. 15 km
Your last day of cycling will be a leisurely round trip through the national park on the island of Veliki Brijun, before returning by boat to the starting point of your journey. On the crossing there will be enough opportunities for small swimming stops. In the evening, round off your trip in one of Porec’s many restaurants.
Day 8: Poreč
Individual departure. Disembarkation until 9 am.
