Route
Tour profile
Day 1: Amsterdam – Hoorn
Individual arrival. Embarkation between 1:00 and 2:00 pm. Departure towards Hoorn at approx. 2:30 pm. During the trip, your tour guide will explain the route, bicycle and safety regulations. After arrival, you will have the opportunity to take a short test ride. After a delicious dinner on board, your tour guide will accompany you on a walk through Hoorn, a former city of the Dutch East India Company, which in the 17th century was one of the most important port cities in the world.
Day 2: Hoorn – Schoorl – Medemblik, approx. 39-47 km
The first bike tour takes you through the polders of the province of North Holland, nestled between the North Sea and the IJsselmeer. This area used to be a tidal sea, and during your ride you will see numerous windmills that once helped the Dutch keep the land dry. Near Alkmaar, the first colorful tulip fields come into view. You will pass the historic city center of the cheese city of Alkmaar, which delights with well-preserved buildings from the 17th century and picturesque canals. The nearby artists’ village of Bergen is also worth a visit. The bike tour ends in Schoorl, from where a bus transfer will take you to the ship.
Day 3: Medemblik – Schoorl – Den Helder/Oudeschild, approx. 42-50 km
After an overnight stay in Medemblik and a hearty breakfast, you will be taken back to Schoorl by bus transfer. Your destination today is Den Helder. First you cycle along the North Sea coast over dikes and through dunes, before heading inland, past polders and impressive tulip fields. Have your camera ready! Den Helder is the most important port for the Dutch Navy and a center of the offshore industry. Weather permitting, you will continue sailing to the island of Texel (Oudeschild) in the evening or stay in Den Helder for the night.
Day 4: Den Helder/Oudeschild – Texel Island round trip, approx. 42-50 km
If you have not yet crossed over, today you will first go to Oudeschild on the island of Texel before starting your bike tour on this enchanting island. You have the choice between a shorter and a longer option. During the trip, you will discover beautiful nature parks, and even on Texel you will cycle through blooming flower fields! Well-marked cycle paths will lead you through picturesque villages and diverse landscapes to the Ecomare seal center. At the end of your bike ride, you can enjoy a well-deserved locally brewed beer in a small brewery near Oudeschild.
Day 5: Oudeschild – Enkhuizen
Today your ship sets course for the harbor of Enkhuizen. If you like, you can help navigate and set the sails – but sailing experience is not required. Of course, you are also invited to simply relax and enjoy the sailing and the view of the IJsselmeer. During the trip, a hearty lunch will be served on board. In the afternoon, the ship will arrive in Enkhuizen, a historic town with centuries of maritime tradition. You will have time to explore the city on your own – Enkhuizen, also known as “the herring city”, offers a beautiful old harbor and an old town full of history. Dinner will not be served on board tonight so that you can discover the culinary delights of this fascinating city.
Day 6: Enkhuizen – Keukenhof – Amsterdam (full-day coach excursion)
Today a comfortable coach ride takes you through the oldest tulip fields in the Netherlands to the world-famous Keukenhof Gardens. You will have plenty of time to discover the most beautiful flower garden in the world – Keukenhof is where spring comes into bloom. A breathtaking sea of colors awaits you: seven million blooming tulips in a unique 32-hectare landscape of traditional and modern garden architecture. In addition to tulips, you can admire hyacinths, daffodils and many other bright flowers. In the afternoon, the bus will take you back to Amsterdam, where your ship is docked today.
Day 7: Amsterdam – Zaandam – Zaanse Schans – Amsterdam, approx. 43 km
Our last bike tour takes us on a round trip to Zaandam and the Zaanse Schans. The Zaanse Schans is a unique village where people live and work in historic houses, surrounded by original windmills, right on the Zaan River. The oldest windmill dates from 1673 and was used, among other things, to make mustard, spices and pigments, to extract oil and to saw wood. During your walk through the village, you can visit various museums, including a clock museum, a historic grocery store, a traditionally furnished house, a clog-making workshop and a cheese dairy. On your way back to Amsterdam, you will pass through the Twiske recreation area and the beautiful open landscape of Waterland, which is not far from the capital.
Day 8: Amsterdam
Individual departure after breakfast until 9:30 am.
